Wednesday - Morning Update

Ben's doing really well today.. yesterday's day off from exercising has obviously helped him regain his stregth! He was back at it for his morning walk, covering a distance of around 30m or so.

The process of wheening him off the ventilator continued this morning. He'll be on the TP (see Tuesday's post) for 1/2hr every 4hrs. He's handling it well thus far and commented that he's feeling "much more confident" with it than yesterday.

Please pass on my regards to Ben. Tell him I felt particularly close to his situation and felt empathy for him when I was in emergency next door at the Holy Spirit Northside last Sunday week, the 7th May. I got out though and am OK again for now.

I have been following the "blog" site and think it is a great idea.

I would like to drop in for a few minutes when Ben gets out of ICU.

Just a word for the carers.... please be aware that leaving ICU is really tough on the patient as care hase been so intense (1 to 1). When I went back on the ward I experienced a sense of abandonment as I dealt with being 1 of say 7 patients a nurse had to look after and that with the nurses telling me I should still be in ICU ... pressure on the systems resources and all ... so watch Ben and try to get doctors to re-assure him that his needs will be adequately dealt with. It is really amazing at how vulnerable and threatened and scared a person can be back on a ward.
